Proud to be a Mobile Junkie......and LUV our new Mobile Site
I take pride in that title. Maybe that is why they asked me to write this blog about our enhanced Mobile Site, or maybe it's because I'm a part of the Team that helped implement it, or maybe it's just because I haven't blogged in a while (most likely all three).
At any rate, we have been working feverishly to enhance our mobile site and it has arrived! Check out the newly augmented southwest.com mobile site. It's sure to stimulate any traveler and mobile junkies' mind. With so many new functions, I'm not sure where to start.
Previously our application allowed our Customers to check-in for their flight, cancel their reservation, contact Southwest, view our Terms/Conditions, and Privacy Policy. In addition to those, the NEW features are :
Book a Flight (Can I get a WOO HOO?)
Check Flight Status
Login to your Rapid Rewards® account
View Schedules
Link to our southwest.com homepage
Some competitor mobile sites should have icon envy when they see the new visually appealing product that we have created. We recognize that there are mobile junkies out there, like myself, who rely on their mobile devices for many conveniences these days. We want you to have these conveniences when you need to book your summer vacation, next business trip, or whatever trip you have planned. Aside from being so intuitive, our mobile site is just as safe as our web site, so you can feel secure with your purchases/transactions.

Whether over dinner, at the zoo, in an airport, in a mall, or wherever you are, we now make it super easy to book your Southwest Airlines flight. Plus, check in for your flight, check flight status, cancel your flight, view our schedules, login to your Rapid Rewards account, or go directly to our website southwest.com. Have a question? With one touch you can explore the “Contact Southwest” option to access Reservations and Information (24 hours), Automated Flight Information, Baggage Questions, Customer Relations, Cargo, Charitable Giving, Cruise, Investor Relations, Rapid Rewards Customer Service, Vacations and few more. (Whew, that is a mouthful) If you think you may have left something important at the TSA Checkpoint, there’s a number for that too.
The next thing I would like to conquer is some term related to the cramp I often feel in my hand because I use my mobile device for so many things. Am I the only one who suffers from this Mobilecrampanitis?
Go check it out and let us know what you think and what we could do next? mobile.southwest.com

Added to home screen! Yay! Only problem is that it doesn't have a pretty icon. ;)
The site Title is "untitled" when I book it on the iPhone.
Other than that, luv it!!
Your web team should add code to southwest.com to detect Berry/Iphone and transfer over to the new mobile site. For example cnn.com and espn.com, very handy for those that don't know the mobile prefix
Where's the desktop icon for the iPhone? That's the missing piece for the iPhone-enhanced site. (When I bookmark the site on my iPhone, a miniature thumbnail shows up rather than an SWA logo. )
I will be the proud owner of a Palm Pre this coming weekend. I've never even used a phone with a browser, so I'm pretty excited (I've never even had a phone that texts). I'll let Southwest Mobile be the first site I bookmark.
How about an iphone app? So surprised you don't have one, since you are the hippest airline!
Wow! This is really cool and it really works. So much better than before....and SOOOO much easier on the IPHONE!
Iphone homescreen here too - also agree it needs an eye-catching icon.
Sweet! I always thought the southwest mobile site was a bit, er... lacking.
Good job!
This is really amazing!! Great work! It's been a long time waiting for these upgrades.
Agree with other comments - auto detection on southwest.com for mobile devies and iPhone app - PLEASE!
what an improvement over the old mobile site! looks fabulous on my BB Pearl! thanks for being one of the few companies that realizes there is life beyond the iPhone.
Wow, I love all the comments and wanted to address a couple of items. You could say that this is just phase one of several more to come. We do have plans for a "cute" icon and you might be able to check that again in a couple of weeks or so. (wink wink)
I can't reveal all the tricks up our sleeve just yet, but we do have some additional enhancements over the next few weeks and months. : )
To address the iphone app, we love that suggestion, what kinds of ideas do you have for a fun and innovative iphone app? I hit the 9 page app max on my iphone, so each time I really want to add one, I have to delete one.
Lastly, I wanted to ask "Anonymous" to provide some more details on his post, I'm a little fuzzy on what is "untitled."

How about a DING app for the iPhone/ mobile phones?
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you...! :)
How about an actual iPhone app???
Please make an iPhone app!!!
For the last couple of months, I have been shopping for a new phone with a better browser. When I went to Verizon (Blackberry Storm), AT&T (iPhone) and Sprint (HTC Touch Pro), I asked them to show me one web site (www.southwest.com) to prove to me that it was a good phone. For me, it was the gold standard test.
I settled on the HTC Touch Pro and now just tried mobile.southwest.com. WOW. Its so fast. I love that I can get my account balance. The old mobile.southwest.com did need a bit of an Extreme Makeover: Web Edition, so to speak. The new one is great!
A cool icon would have been nice but no big deal. On my phone, the default title was "Welcome to Southwest" but I changed it to "Mobile Southwest Airlines" No big deal.
How many millions did you pay Razorfish to make this happen?
Thank you SWA for creating a more mobile site for a crackberry like myself.
As the others have said, what about an iPhone and Blackberry app?
http://www.airportchronicles.com
YEAH!!! SWA has taken a giant leap into the 90's. Finally!!!
I've always wondered why you never had an electronic schedule like every other airline.
When are you going to create a Blackberry icon that links to the mobile site?????
Love it (should I say LUV it?) It looks fantastic on my iphone and will save me from calling reservations to change flights while on my way to the airport!
Please add a webclip icon for the iphone. It shouldn't be very difficult, just add it in the header of the page.
As for an iphone app, I'd love to see a way to store your RR info and automatically log in to your account, and see your upcoming itineraries, automatically have your info filled out from MySouthwest when booking/changing tickets etc. I kept hoping you guys would either come out with the iphone app or update the mobile site, so I'm thrilled with this.
Ideally, I'd love it if the web looked like the Continental mobile site: http://pda.continental.com It would be great if it gave you all the info about a particular flight (a/c #, gate, delay time that's current etc). The Continental site is a fantastic example of a great mobile site. The SWA one is a huge (!!!!) improvement though! Thank you!!
For those of you who wanted to see the pretty icon on the iphone, IT'S THERE! Go check it out! The icon for the Blackberry should follow at a later date.
Also, as I mentioned in my earlier post, we are still working on additional enhancements and functionality for our mobile site. Stay tuned........
Now to wait for my web enabled phone to be delivered....getting impatient! So many new toys!
Happy to see you're using iUI for the iPhone site -- http://iui.googlecode.com When you get a chance you should look at upgrading to a newer version :)
After looking for App on Itunes and then reviewing this site it appears it is not so much an app for my I tune pages, but a bookmark I can put on Safari. Not sure why. An app for the itune would be cool.
