IT’S ON: SOUTHWEST AIRLINES OFFERS AMAZING $30, $60, $90 FARE SALE
Despite all the fare sales that have been going on, I know some of you out there are still waiting for a better deal. Well…here it is! You don’t want to pass this one up.
Today, we are launching one of the biggest fare sales in Southwest Airlines history. For 48 hours, one-way tickets will be available for just $30, $60, or $90 based on length of travel.
• $30 for travel up to 400 miles (like Baltimore/Washington to New York LaGuardia)
• $60 for travel between 400 and 750 miles (like Las Vegas to Oakland)
• $90 for travel more than 750 miles (like Chicago Midway to Houston Hobby)
To see the list of markets and prices or to book your travel, click here.
***These fares will only be available for 48 hours, so book now! (See fare rules below).
Due to the overwhelming success of our fare sale, southwest.com is operating at peak capacity and experiencing sporadic delays. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have.
FARE RULES
Fares are available on www.southwest.com or www.swabiz.com. Southwest Airlines sale fares are available from July 7, 2009, through 11:59 PDT July 8, 2009. Travel must take place between Sept. 9, 2009, and Nov. 18, 2009. Travel valid everyday except Fridays and Sundays. Sale fares slightly higher on other days of the week. Fares do not include airport-assessed passenger facility charges (PFC) of up to $9.00 and U.S. government-imposed September 11th Security Fee of up to $5.00 one-way. Seats are limited and may not be available on all flights or to all destinations. Fares are available for one-way travel. Fares are nonrefundable but may be applied toward the purchase of future travel on Southwest Airlines. Fares are not available through the Group Desk. Hey you show the sixty dollar flights for mco to sdf but then in Dec. you double the price !!! Hey I can fly Aleagence into Lexington from Sandford, Fl... Sorry you are losing my business.. I really would have purchased two roundtrips for sixty in Dec..
What a rip off!! I booked early for a flight from Nashville to Jacksonville and return and then you drop the fares more than half. thanks a lot. Everyone on the airplane will be flying cheap except me. never book early with Southwest or you will be big loser.
Mr. Reed,
Good news in that you haven't lost the money you spent on the higher fare. Unlike the other guys who lower their fares, the difference on SW can be used toward other SW flights for up to a year after purchase. Here is how to do it this is from our greeting script on the number to make a reservations:
"If you’ve already booked your travel online and you’re calling to get a lower fare due to a southwest.com fare sale, did you know you can receive the lower fare you’ve found by visiting southwest.com? You can re-fare your itinerary yourself online by following a few simple steps.
Simply visit the Travel Tools link at southwest.com and select the Change Air reservation link.
You’ll need to enter your Confirmation Number and the name of the Passenger traveling.
From that point, your current itinerary will display. Select the box next to the flight segment or segments where you have found a lower fare. Then you’ll select Change Selected Trips. Southwest.com will then display your scheduled date or dates of travel and your original city pairs. You don’t need to change anything on this screen. Just select Go to Next Step Select New Flight.
On the Select Flight screen you will want to select the same flight or flights that you are originally booked on. If a lower fare is available, it will display on this screen. After you’ve selected the flight or flights for which you want to receive a lower fare, select Go To Next Step New Price.
On the pricing page, make sure to verify your flight and travel dates are what you want them to be. If a lower fare was available, the difference in fare will display here. Once everything is correct, select Go To Next Step Reconcile. This step will confirm the fare change you initiated.
While you won’t be eligible for a refund of the fare difference, unless you were booked on a refundable fare, the difference in the amount paid for your original fare and the lower fare will be saved as a credit under your confirmation number. This credit will be good for travel on a future Southwest Airlines flight. Remember, travel credit is good from the original date of your purchase, and all Southwest Airlines fare rules apply."
It's a lot easier than it sounds.
Negative comments? This is AWESOME! Thank you SWA! I've been planning a trip to NYC. When I went two years ago, I paid $500+ round trip. Now, thanks to LGA and this 48 hour deal, I'll have enough money to pay for a hotel and WON'T have to fly another airline! Thanks for being one of the best companies around!
Great fares but from Love Field to Albany, NY for the 3 different dates I plugged in, you have 2 stops and an all-day travel so you lose one full day just traveling!! Not worth it!
Tim - the name of the airline is Allegiant. They do fly between Sanford (Orlando) and Louisville. (nearest cities are Knoxville, Owensboro, and Lexington).
They will charge you up to $35 per piece of checked luggage.
They will charge you a $14 "convergence" fee for booking on line. If you have the nerve to call them to book a flight it will be the $14 PLUS $10 per segment. In other words, they are charging you for the privilege of giving them money. (You can avoid this fee by going to airport and buying the ticket).
As much as I'm getting tired of flying 737s, I will always remain a loyal Southwest passenger because I like the ability to be able to use ALL of my money in case I have to change my plans when I have a non-refundable ticket. I saw the fares for one airline between OAK and LGB. The fare was $49 non-refundable. The change fee was $45! On Southwest the change fee would be $0.
According to citycomparator.com, HOU to ABQ is 724 miles, so the tickets should be $60 one way right?
I LOVE the fact that SWA give you a credit for the difference if a lower fare pops up before your flight. I was a big traveler (more than a 1.5M miles) on another airline that would never think of doing that! I fly SWA now whenever I can!!
Thank you for your great customer service!!
Hi Alex, we use the Web Flyer site to set our mileage for fares, and it shows that the Albuquerque to Houston Hobby distance is 758 miles, which makes it a $90 route for the fare sale. (I found several other sites pegging the mileage at 754 or 755.) Here is the link to the site we used: http://www.webflyer.com/travel/milemarker/getmileage.php?city=abq&city=h...
It would help if your website was actually allowing people to book flights!!
Offer sale-airfare and then have your website go down, poor customer service...
Jordan,
We apologize for your inconvenience. Our entire Technology Team was working on the project, and the booking portion of southwest.com is active again.
As someone well versed in IT, and being around computers for a long time, it gets frustrating when Southwest has such great deals, but for the last 20 minutes the site keeps telling me after I fill out everything and press the final 'purchase' button, it just repeatedly kicks me to a "We're sorry. This feature is unavailable."
Man! I really wanted those tickets.
It's not active for me, not using the booking area next to the big 48 sale on the main page. I'm looking for a flight from Little Rock to Los Angeles (Ontario) and I get an error message every time. And I've emptied my cache and cleared my history, too.
No, I just tried to book the sale for November flights on applicable dates and it said the followed: Temporarily unavailable. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. WTF?
I'm a SW whore! I've flown over 13 roundtrip flights. I've gotten two rewards and I'm working on a third. However, I really need the website to work so that I can continue to fly SW!!!!!!!
When will the website be working again? Is there a way that we can call in and receive the same deal for this offer? I need to purchase the flight from OKC to Philly roundtrip for Nov 4-7. HELP!!!
Im so excited about the sale, but now the website is down and that is taking away precious time, not to mention the Ding special I need to book... :(
Well, 4:30 Eastern Time and the site is still down. A sale is not a sale unless you can participate! By the way, when will it be up?
Folks again our apologies. The web site has been going up and down. at 3:45pm Central, we had word that it was back up.
Hey its 11:18 PM. I have been trying to change my flight to take advantage of the 48 Hour Sale since 10:00 AM this morning! Your site is STILL DOWN....
Your website is still down. It has been down since 9:30 AM this morning! I have been trying all day to change my reservation to take advantage of the 48 HOUR SALE....will SW honor the sale price? It is your website which is down and I can not access
Best Best sale ever! I had a roundtrip ticket booked at normal fare, but decided to fly my girlfriend out on October to Vegas and Disneyland from NOrthern Cali.. Tickets from Nor Cal to Vegas, then Vegas to O.C. and then O.C back to Nor Cal in October for the two of us has cost me The credits I received and only 20 more dollars.. I will support Southwest.. Its a bit harder for me to purchase a full Business Class nonrefundable seat BUT anytime Southwest offers a sale like this I will open up my wallet and contribute as much as I can!
P.S. I also call about fifty of my friends and family and usually about seven to ten of them usually end up makin purchases...
Am in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and was very excited to have SWA come to town after many years of the red-tail monopoly here. Yesterday's $30 sale to Chicago was the perfect excuse for me to try SWA for the first time. No pressing need to go to Chicago for 2 days in October, but have talked about taking my 9 year old daughter to the American Girl store in Chicago and to see some of the other sites. However, despite having the $30 web fare available for desired dates/times, and multiple attempts to purchase, going all the way thru each time with payment / email information, I was never able to book tickets successfully, continuing to get an "error" at the end of each attempted transaction. So, great sale price, but ultimately a very frustrating first encounter with SWA. I was hoping for better based on SWA's reputation and am disappointed we won't be trying you out at this time.
Due to the server problems yesterday many people were unable to take advantage of the airfare sale. You should repair the server and extend the sale one more day.
Wish I had known this expired at midnight (didn't read the fine print, I guess) -- tried to book last night and couldn't get in, so waited until this a.m. Any chance this offer will come up again? Guess I'll have to go w/Frontier or JetBlue...
What a great deal. But I really wish the website would have been working yesterday when I tried to book our flights. :-(
I got home too late last night (traveling on SW, of course :-) ) and missed the deal.
SW should really consider doing something for all the folks who missed this due to IT issues on their side. :-(
I am very upset to have lost out on a lower airfare yesterday for Thanksgiving travel when the site was down. I tried to call only to have the wait time 30 minutes--working in a hospital, it was impossible to leave a recall request. I went to book the fare today and the cost is at least $500 more for the 3 of us to Orlando than it was yesterday. I love Southwest, but am sorry to say I will have to shop around for a competitive fare for the first time in 9 years..:(.
**These fares will only be available for 48 hours, so book now! (See fare rules below).
How is it that from July 7th to July 8th could equal 48 hours when the sale info was posted at 2:30 and the sale ends at midnight? I think there was a miscalculation in this somewhere
Minnesota Traveler,
The fares actually posted to southwest.com at Midnight Central Time, Tuesday Morning. Even though the blog posted at 2:30 a.m. Central Time, the fares were available beginning at midnight. Also for those in the Eastern time zone, they actually had 51 hours to buy fares because the sale ended at Midnight Pacific Time on Thursday morning. Those in the Central time zone had 50 hours, those in Mountain Time had 49 hours.
Had 2 definite -- more likely 3 -- flights to book that would have fallen into this time frame. Now I just can't bring myself to book any of them here, since the current fares in comparison look ridiculous. Continental already has a deal that will work out better for one at least.
But it's still depressing looking at this post...
The sight was down during the sale; however the phone lines were not. During the IT issues the group at SWA were more than happy o help out. I am flying a family of 4 from AZ (PHX) to NY (LGA) round trip for less than $890.00! Are you kidding me? This deal was so incredible. I fly to NY and it costs me an average of $800.00 RT each time. The last time the four of us traveled to NY it was around $3000.00. Thank you for the sale. I LOVE IT! I got a 450 sq ft hotel in Time square for an extremly cheap rate too. This just fell into my lap. Was not planning on going but when these deals come up you must take advantage. I love the fact America is having a "Fire Sale" on just about everything. Im buying everything!!!!! Have fun! DING...you can now move about the country (And buy everything)
These deals were sweet. Was able to buy a couple flights for my wife to head up to Philly to spend time with her family without any toddlers running around. Thanks Southwest. You guys/gals rock! Have never had any problems buying online.
Thanks for continuing the $30/60/90 fares for nearly a week and a half through DING! What a great application to deliver targeted fares to your customers. I'll be looking forward to WN bringing back the $30/60/90 fares through DING! in the near future. For those that don't have the application downloaded, or are afraid of downloading software- DING! is one of the best, most unobtrusive applications I've used, and it's now installed on both of my computers.
I just booked flights from BNA-MSP through MDW by booking each RT leg separately on 2 tickets for $57 less than your best fare from BNA-MSP on one ticket. Exact same flights, two different prices, the nice thing is I'll get double RR credits. This has been a common practice with the "other" carriers. I've been a Southwest fan and frequent flyer for 15 years in part because you have ethical and fair pricing. It seems ever since you started this campaign to fly into the major hubs, like Denver, Minn., Logan, NYC, etc. you've started to pick up some of the bad habits of the hub and spoke carriers.
